2025 Tax Resources

It’s that time again- time to start thinking about taxes. While no one looks forward to tax season, hopefully this blog post makes it a little easier. Below, you’ll find a list of local community organizations that offer free tax preparation, along with trusted state and national resources that can guide you step by step if you prefer to file on your own. Whether you’re filing for yourself or helping a loved one, these tools are designed to make tax time a little easier and less overwhelming. 

 

Finding Tax Forms 

  • Ann Arbor District Library– offers physical copies of various federal tax forms beginning in late January. Librarians can print additional forms for no cost. Call (734) 327-4200 for more information.  
  • Chelsea District Library– tax forms can be found next to the 2nd floor elevator beginning late January to early February. Other forms can be copied by asking a librarian. Call (734) 475-8732 for more information.  
  • Milan Public Library- basic federal and state income tax forms and instructions are available at the library beginning in January. Can also assist with printing. Call (734) 439-1240 for more information. 
  • Salem South Lyon District Library– offers federal and state forms for free pickup. Forms are available January- April. Call (248) 437-6431 for more information.  
  • Ypsilanti District Library– YDL offers tax forms, while supplies last, at the Whittaker and Superior branches. Call the library for more information.

Online Tax Forms 

  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS)– can download necessary tax forms from their website. You can also call the Detroit IRS office at (844) 545-5640 to set up an appointment.  
  • MyFreeTaxes.com– free online service provided by United Way for preparing and filing your taxes brought to you by United Way. Must make $67,000 per year or less to use this service.  

 

 

Community Tax Help Resources 

  • Accounting Aid Society– provides free tax help to Residents of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties who make $67,000 or less. Offer appointments in-person and online. Call (313) 556-1920 for more information.  
  • Chelsea Senior Center– offers free tax preparation for older adults who have lower incomes and have simple returns. Appointments from February-April (scheduling begins mid-January). Call (734) 475-9242 for more information or to schedule an appointment.  
  • Housing Bureau for Seniors– offers free tax preparation for older adults. Program dates will be announced closer to the beginning of tax season. Call (734) 998-9339 for more information. 
  • Manchester Community Resource Center– will be serving as a United Way VITA “Scan and Go” site. Individuals who made less than $64,000 in 2024 may be qualified to have their taxes done for free in February. Call the CRC for more information and/or to schedule an appointment at (734) 428-7722. 
  • Milan Seniors for Healthy Living – provides free tax preparation through AARP (membership not required). Begin accepting appointments on Monday, January 26th. Program runs through April. Call (734) 508-6229 for more information.  
  • Saline Area Senior Center– offers free tax preparation through AARP (membership not required). Begin accepting appointments on Friday, January 16thVisit the website or call (734) 429-9274 for more information. 
  • St. Francis of Assisi Parish– offers tax help to individuals with limited income ($57,000.00 or less) and simple tax returns. Call the parish office at (734) 821-2121 to make an appointment to drop off your return.  Services offered February through April. Assistance also available in Spanish. 
  • University of Michigan Law School Low Income Taxpayer Clinic– helps low-income taxpayers with various issues, including IRS notices, liens and levies, innocent/injured spouse relief, tax audits and more. The amount in dispute must be $50,000 or less per tax year. Call (734) 936-3535 to schedule an appointment.      
  • Ypsilanti District Library– YDL serves as a site for free AARP tax preparation. The program runs from February until mid-April. Call the library for more information.

State & National Resources 

  • AARP Tax Aide– provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low to moderate income. Program generally runs from February 12 to April 15.     
  • Accounting Aid Society– Available to those with an annual household income of $57,000 or less.  Offers a remote service where IRS certified tax preparers will work to complete tax returns via phone. Must have a smartphone and an email address to submit documents.  
  • IRS Free File– Prepare and file your federal income tax online for free. File at an IRS partner site with the IRS Free File Program or use Free File Fillable Forms. No cost to you for a federal return.  
  • Michigan Legal Help– Offers a variety of articles with information related to taxes.    
  • MyFreeTaxes.com- Free online tax filing program provided by United Way that helps anyone of any income file their taxes for free. Can file federal and unlimited state returns for free.
