June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Health Awareness Month! It’s a time to explore brain health, volunteer or spend time with loved ones who are living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and learn more about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Living with or caring for someone with dementia can be isolating; today on the blog we’re going to explore different social programs aimed at community members with memory difficulties.
Memory Cafes– Memory cafes offer social outlets for people living with memory loss and their caregivers and/or family members.

- Partnership between Dementia Friendly Saline and First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor.

- Informal group for those living with dementia and their caregivers/friends.
- Meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 11:00am-noon.

Social Events
- Dementia Friendly Cinema (Dementia Friendly Saline)
- Held at Emagine Theater Saline, this Dementia-friendly movie program provides monthly screenings of classic movies in a safe and friendly environment for persons with brain changes, their care partners, and anyone else who wants to join in the fun!
- Meets the second Wednesday of each month.

- 2:00pm Movie begins
- Cost: $5 (includes popcorn, soda, and light buffet).

- Moments In Time Chorus (Dementia Friendly Saline)
- This dementia friendly singing group is open to people with all forms of dementia, as well as their care partners, and family. All abilities welcome.
- Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 1:00-2:30pm at Holy Faith Church in Saline.

Brain Health

- Keep your brain sharp by solving brain puzzles as a whole group and individually while enjoying a breakfast treat.

- Fun brain exercises that are designed to keep your brain young, strong, agile and adaptable.

- The Montreal Cognitive Assessment is a brief thirty question test given to assess 8 different types of cognitive abilities. You will keep your test and results, giving you a base-line assessment and information to take to your next doctor’s appointment for discussion.

- Unique, one-on-one, FREE support program for primary caregivers to a loved one with dementia.

Adult Day Programs

- Provides daily recreation, social support, meals and activities for persons with memory loss or dementia in a safe, comfortable setting.
- Participants can visit the program for a few hours or the entire day.
- Elderberry Club
- This group designed exclusively for women with mild memory loss meets weekly for support, discussion, friendship, creative expression, and education.
- Meets Tuesdays from 10:30am-3:00pm at the Turner Senior Resource Center.
- Mind Works
- Weekly educational group for people with mild memory loss that hopes to meet the unique needs of individuals who are newly diagnosed with cognitive change.

- Silver Club Memory Programs promises a safe, stimulating environment for older adults with mild to moderate memory loss to participate in activities.
- Structured, activity-based program that meets daily from 10:00am-3:30pm and includes lunch.
