5 Ways to Celebrate Women’s Health & Fitness Day

National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, observed on the last Wednesday of September, is a great reminder to make your health (and yourself) a priority.  While your mind may immediately go to gym classes when thinking of health and fitness, today’s a day to docus on our overall well-being; this includes our physical health, nutrition, mental health, social connections, and ability to stay active and independent. Whether you’re scheduling a long-overdue checkup, exploring nutrition, trying a new fitness class, or simply taking a walk with a friend, small steps can make a big difference. Use this day as an opportunity to check in on your health, discover local resources, and find ways to support your well-being all year long.

Schedule an Appointment

Do you have a test or referral you’ve been meaning to schedule? Set some time aside today to make a call.  Please note that this list was created as a public service. Speak with your doctor about the best screenings for your personal medical history.

The following screenings are recommended for women age 60 and over:

Now is also a great time to schedule your annual flu shot!

Check in on Your Overall Wellness

  • Physical health: Are you experiencing any new aches, changes, fatigue, or other symptoms you’ve been putting off? Do you know when your next recommended screenings and checkups are due?
  • Mental health: How have you been feeling emotionally? Are stress, anxiety, sadness, or loneliness affecting your daily life? Consider talking with a health care provider or mental health professional if you need support.
  • Nutrition: Are you eating regular, balanced meals and drinking enough water? If you’re unsure about your nutritional needs, consider talking with a registered dietitian.
  • Sleep: Are you getting enough restful sleep? Persistent sleep problems are worth discussing with your health care provider.
  • Social connections: Do you have regular opportunities to spend time with friends, family, neighbors, or community groups? Staying socially connected can be an important part of overall wellness.
  • Strength and balance: Are you staying strong and steady enough to comfortably manage everyday activities? Consider adding strength, balance, or flexibility exercises to your routine.
  • Preventive care: Take a look at your medications, vaccinations, dental and vision care, and other routine health needs. Make a list of anything you’re unsure about and bring it to your next appointment.
  • Joy and purpose: Are you making time for things you enjoy? Hobbies, volunteering, learning something new, spending time outdoors, and other meaningful activities can all contribute to well-being.
