Holidays are a time to gather with family, but this year the holidays will look different. With Covid cases on the rise in Michigan, Governor Whitmer urged Michiganders to rethink the holiday:
“Thanksgiving is going to look different this year […] It just has to. Medical experts across the country strongly recommend that we do not host Thanksgiving with people from outside of our own households […] I know this will be hard, but we cannot afford for people to head to a family member, friend or loved one’s house for Thanksgiving, contract the virus and bring it back to the communities and their homes.” (source)
Thankfully, the popular video conferencing client Zoom has decided to waive all fees on Thanksgiving day so families can be together virtually. Usually the free Zoom account only allows for a 45 minute video call, but on Thanksgiving there will be no call limits! While it’s not the same as having a living room full of loved ones, a phone call or video chat is a great, safe way to stay connected this holiday season.
