May is Older Americans Month! Every year the Administration for Community Living chooses a theme to celebrate older adults; this year’s theme is “Powered by Connection” and focuses on the positive effects that relationships and social connection have on the well-being of older adults.
Ways to Celebrate
- Educate yourself on the ways social connection can affect your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
- Share social resources in your community with friends and loved ones.
- Connect older adults with transportation to enable them to get out and be social.
- Volunteer your time at a local senior center or senior living facility.
- Encourage older adults to share their stories.
- Promote intergenerational events, such as having older adults share their stories with children at a school or library.
- Ask your social media followers to share their stories about connection.
